Funeral of Mother Ann Magdalen

Abbot Brendan Thomas • November 6, 2020

The superior of the Poor Clares of Much Birch died recently

Mother Ann Magdalen (right, in the picture talking to Lady Darnley, the Lord Lieutenant of Herefordshire at Belmont's 150th celebration) died recently after a short illness.

She was born in Glasgow in 1938 and made her first profession in 1959. For many years she was the community Infirmarian. She became Superior of the Community in 2007.

Because of the Covid situation, Mass was private, live-streamed to the family and friends of Mother Ann Magdalen throughout the world. Fr Augustine was there to arrange the live-steaming.

The Poor Clares have had a strong connection with Belmont for many decades, the monks serving as their chaplains to this day. Their monastery is at Much Birch, six miles from Hereford on the Ross Road

Abbot Paul presided at the Mass, assisted by Dom Brendan. Fr Joseph also attended as their regular Confessor.

Please pray for the community that live their lives quietly as contemplative nuns in the spirit of St Clare and St Francis of Assisi.
