Mirror of the Psalms

The Mirror of the Psalms

led by Dom Brendan Thomas

“It makes one conscious that these are real prayers and aspirations uttered by real people.” C. S. Lewis

St Athanasius said that when we pray the psalms we hold up a mirror to ourselves. They seem to describe and evoke the whole range of human experience - its highs and lows. There are shouts of frustration, pain and anger; there are moments of stillness and peace; and then there are cries of wonder, joy, thanksgiving and praise. All creaturely life is there, turned into a symphony of praise. Human words, divinely inspired, are to lead us to God himself. Join us for an introduction to the Book of Psalms, and to explore the spiritual richness of this prayer book of Church and Synagogue.
