A flower festival was held in the Abbey Church from the 9th to 13th July. A great deal of hard work was put in by the arrangers, stewards and receptionists, and it was all a tremendous success.

Each evening there a concert was put on which were all well attended. The Mynyddyslwn Male Voice Choir brought a reportoire of traditional welsh songs and hymns - such as Men of Harlech and Gwahoddiad, operatic items such as the the Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves from Nabucco as well as some interpretations of modern songs. On the second Evening the Belmont Parish Choir put on a concert of liturgical music under the direction of the Choirmaster Mr Tony Hemson. The Soprana Rita Rees sang "Let the Bright Seraphim."

On Friday the Monastic Schola gave a concert of Gregorian Chant which was well attended. Abbot Alan introduced various items of chant from the seasons of the Liturgical Year such as "Puer Natus Est" and "Crux Fidelis". The Schola sang a few modern items in parts including Abbot Alan's "Song for Pentecost" and Br Raphael's "This Day is Holy" composed specially for the occasion. Abbot Paul and Br Fernando sang a some Peruvian music, the poignant Psalm 136 (By the Rivers of Baylon) and an Anthem to Our Lady.

During the week Mr Stasio Sliwka had provided some organ interludes between the singing, including Messian Le Banquet Celeste. On the Saturday the evening concerts were rounded off with the Hereford Young Organists who gave a splendid recital.

The Flower Festival closed with a Songs of Praise on Sunday afternoon.
